April 30, 2011 – Spokane, WA: The Spokane Shock knocked off the Arizona Rattlers Saturday night 70-69 in front of over 10,000 fans at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena. Spokane maintains a perfect 4-0 all-time record against the Rattlers and handed Arizona its first loss of the season.
As in the previous meetings, the game came down to the final play. After Arizona’s offense capped off a five-play drive on a four-yard touchdown run by FB Odie Armstrong they elected go for two points to take a one-point lead. Spokane’s defense held firm and Arizona’s two-point conversion failed as QB Nick Davila’s pass fell incomplete.
With only 8 seconds left in the game, and Spokane up by one point, Arizona elected to go for an on-side kick attempt that the Rattlers recovered on their own 18-yard line. After an incomplete pass by Davila on first down, Arizona’s Head Coach Kevin Guy elected to go for the game -winning field goal. A high snap on the attempt gave Shock DL Khreem Smith just enough time to break through the line of scrimmage and block the field goal as time expired.
Offensively, Spokane matched its season-high of 70 points thanks in large part to QB Kyle Rowley who accounted for nine total touchdowns (eight passing and one rushing). Rowley finished the night completing 21/31 for 219 yards. Spokane’s receiving corps was led by Greg Orton who recorded eight receptions for 70 yards and three touchdowns. WR Raul Vijil led the team with four touchdowns, on five receptions, and was honored as the MVP of the game.
Davila ended the night completing 29/43 for 318 yards and six touchdowns. Arizona’s receiving corps was led by the Nifty Playmaker of the game Rod Windsor after he recorded 16 receptions for 167 yards and one touchdown.
Next week, the Spokane Shock will hit the road to take on the Pittsburgh Power and former Head Coach Chris Siegfried on Saturday May 7th. The Shock will return to Spokane on Saturday May 14th to host the Dallas Vigilantes. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by contacting TicketsWest.
