The Spokane Shock announced today that OL Juan Garcia has been added to the 2010 roster. Garcia, 6-3 305, signed a free agent contract with the Minnesota Vikings after completing a decorated career at the University of Washington. The Vikings released Garcia at the end of their training camp during their final cuts.
In his final three seasons at Washington, Garcia started 37-straight games at center. After his senior season, he was invited to play in the East-West Shrine game and as a junior Garcia earned second-team all Pac-10 honors.
Although offensive lineman don’t get a lot of attention, that doesn’t seem to bother Garcia.
“Although we don’t get all of the exposure that a quarterback or a wide receiver, it’s fun in the trenches,” Garcia explained. “You are in a battle one-on-one on and you are hitting on every single play. It’s a rush.”
Head Coach Rob Keefe expects Garcia to compete for a starting spot on his talented roster.
“Juan played at a high level of college football in the PAC-10 and he proved that he can continue to play at an even higher level with the Minnesota Vikings,” Keefe explained. “I’m really excited that he is going to be in the fold for the upcoming season.”
