April 11, 2008 – Spokane, WA:The Spokane Shock announced today that kick off for their May 17th game has changed to 4 PM in order to accommodate the 70th Annual Lilac Festival Armed Forces Torchlight Parade that will begin at 7PM in downtown Spokane.

“We are very happy to help in whatever way we can to encourage our fans to come see the Shock play at the Arena then attend the Lilac Parade that evening,” said Adam Nebeker, General Manager of the Shock. “We will make an announcement during the game encouraging our fans to stay downtown and watch the Parade after the game.”

“We are pleased that the Shock organization is working with us to make this a win-win for everyone involved,” said Russ Brown, Lilac Parade chairman. “Our primary concern is the safety of our parade marchers and spectators and we are thrilled that Shock fans might enjoy the parade that night.”

“We will make the process as smooth, safe and enjoyable as possible so the public can enjoy either or both events,” said Sergeant Jason Hartman, special events coordinator for the Spokane Police Department. “The whole idea is for Spokane to have fun and enjoy these two great events. We don’t want traffic issues to detract from the festivities or discourage anyone from coming.”

The Spokane Police are working on a traffic management plan for Saturday, May 17 with the participation of staff at the Spokane Arena. The plan will be released to the media in time for the local media to notify the public on potential traffic challenges. Information will also be posted at the web sites for the Spokane Lilac Festival (spokanelilacfestival.org), the Spokane Shock (spokaneshock.com) and the Spokane Arena (spokanearena.com).
