Ayanga returns to Spokane

The Spokane Shock announced today that DL Ayanga Okpokuwuruk has been added to the 2012 roster.
Okpokuwuruk, 6-2 260, is the eighth player from the 2011 roster to return for the 2012 season. As an AFL-rookie last season, Okpokuwuruk played in six games and recorded eight tackles with one sack. Immediately after the regular season, Okpokuwuruk left Spokane to re-join the New York Giants after the NFL’s player lockout was lifted.  
“Ayanga’s time in Spokane was short last season but he definitely made an impression on the coaching staff and on other AFL teams’,” Head Coach Andy Olson explained. “I’m excited to add another player with strength and speed to the defensive line. I’m also excited to add a person with Ayanga’s good character to the roster.”
Prior to his professional career, Okpokowuruk spent four seasons at Duke University. During his career as a Blue Devil, Okpokowuruk registered 108 tackles – including 19.5 for loss – with 11 sacks and two pass breakups in 47 games.
The Spokane Shock will open the season on March 12th as they host the Iowa Barnstormers.
