July 20, 2011 Spokane, WA: The Spokane Shock announced today that WR Greg Orton has been activated from Other League Exempt. Spokane also added DL Michale (pronounced Michael) Spicer and DL James McClinton to the roster, while WR Brian Paysinger and DL Mel Purcell were placed on reassignment. The Shock placed QB Erik Meyer on Injured Reserve.
Last month, Orton was placed on Other League Exempt after he signed with the UFL’s Omaha Nighthawks. Orton, in his second season with Spokane, was having a breakout year for the Shock recording 104 receptions for 1,361 yards and 31 touchdowns in 14 games.
Spicer, 6-3 285, is a two-year veteran of the UFL. Last season, Spicer lead the Hartford Colonials in sacks (three) and also added 12 tackles. The previous year, as a member of the UFL’s New York Sentinels, Spicer collected 1.5 sacks, two tackles for loss and a forced fumble. Spicer is also a veteran of the AFL (2005 – 2008), where he tallied 75 tackles with 10.5 sacks with one forced fumble.
McClinton, 6-0 305, was an All-American at Kansas, where he recorded 118 career tackles – including 29 tackles for loss – with 9.5 sacks. The following season, McClinton was invited by the New England Patriots to participate in a team combine.
Although this week’s lineup has not been released, Orton, Spicer, and McClinton will be eligible to play. Spokane travels to Jacksonville this weekend to take on the Sharks in the final game of the regular season. The game will air on the NFL Network Friday at 5 PM PST.
