Players to Watch - Part IV

Spokane's OL will have to Stop DL Justin Parrish in order to win the ArenaCup

As the Shock prepare for the ArenaCup Saturday, this week spokaneshock.com will provide fans with an in-depth look at some of the Pioneers standout players. Today, we will be featuring DL Justin Parrish.
As the Shock get ready for the championship game Saturday, they will have to once again overcome Wilkes-Barre/Scranton before they can claim their second ArenaCup Championship victory.
The Pioneers defense may be led by DB Micheaux Robinson, but DL Justin Parrish is the power house and backbone of their defense. The 6-1 255 veteran has amassed 80 tackles including 26 sacks and 30 tackles for a loss, ten forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries in his two years with the Pioneers.
Parrish ended the 2009 regular season with 39 tackles including 11 sacks and 14 tackles for a loss along with three forced fumbles. Robinson was ranked sixth during the regular season in sacks and third in tackles for a loss.
“Eleven sacks in this league is very impressive,” explained Defensive Back and Special Teams Coach Rob Keefe. “Justin’s a beast and a fierce player, and we’ll have to limit him Saturday.”
Parrish has continued to be a powerhouse in the playoffs racking up five and a half tackles including three sacks, as well as a forced fumble.
The last time the Pioneers faced Spokane on July 11, they were forced to play without Parrish and while their defense managed to force two interceptions and four forced fumbles, their efforts weren’t enough to prevent Spokane from securing a win.
“The last time we played the Pioneers we only won by four points and that was without Parrish,” explained Keefe. “We want them to be a full strength when we play Saturday, so that this game will be the best it can be.”
Spokane will get their wish Saturday, as they will get to take on Parrish and his fellow defensive teammates and prove their victory earlier in the season wasn’t a fluke. However, Spokane can be sure that Parrish will be on top of his game Saturday and looking to show Spokane what should have happened the first time around by winning the ArenaCup Saturday.
