Shock defeat Blitz 40-21

Kelvin Morris had an outstanding game with one INT and one FR
June 9, 2007 – Bakersfield, CA: The Spokane Shock stormed in to California tonight with only one thing on their mind: payback; as they defeated the Bakersfield Blitz, 40-21. On May 12th, the Blitz came in to Spokane and stopped the potent Shock offense in front of a sold-out Spokane crowd, 28-44.

“The whole week we were saying ‘payback,’ and that’s exactly what we did,” DS Rob Keefe said.

Keefe and the rest of the defense played a huge role in tonight’s win with three interceptions (Alex Teems – 1, Morris -1, James Todd -1) and a fumble recovery that was run back for a touchdown by LB Kelvin Morris. Morris also had one of the three interceptions making a spectacular diving catch that helped seal the victory.

“Kelvin Morris is one of the finest defensive players in this league,” Head Coach Adam Shackleford said. “He played a heck of a game tonight.”

The offense of the Shock struggled a bit in the first quarter but continued to gain momentum as the game wore on.

QB Andrico Hines was under heavy pressure thanks to the Blitz defensive line, which is arguably the best in the league. Still, Hines racked up three touchdown passes, with only one interception. (19-32, 3TD, 1INT).

WR Antwone Savage once again led the receiving core with nine receptions for 90 yards but was not able to score a touchdown, for the first time this season. WR Kelvin Dickens continues to improve his play and added six receptions with two touchdowns. WR Anthony Brown added one touchdown reception of his own. Raul Vijil was pulled out of the game after suffering an injury in the second quarter only to return in the third. Vijil led the team with 95 all-purpose yards.

The Shock travel to Tri-Cities next week, for the two team’s first meeting of the regular season. Kick-off is set for 5 PM and can be heard live on 105.7 THE BUZZARD and locally (in Spokane) on KHQ-TV.

Notes: Ben Brown did not travel with the team to spend time with his family. His wife gave birth to their second child on Wednesday. Katon Bethay replaced Brown in the line-up and contributed with two rushing touchdowns of his own…More then 100 fans are expected to make the trip to the Tri-Cities next week as the Shock take on the Fever.
